Roobs!

My name is Reuben but most of my friends call me Roobs. I’m 25 years old and currently live in Los Angeles.  I grew up in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Visalia.  I graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Legal Studies & Sociology.  I currently am pursuing a Masters in Urban & Regional Planning at UCLA.

I worked as a paralegal at a law firm that specializes in real estate development back up in the Bay Area. I also served as a Commissioner on the Waterfront Commission for the City of Berkeley and as an Executive Board Member of East Bay Young Democrats in Oakland.  I currently chair the California Young Democrats LGBTQ Caucus.

I am a big fan of politics.  My family has always been staunch Democrats.  I self describe my politics as left-leaning moderate.

I began my work in politics with the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign in San Francisco and was selected as an At-Large Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 2008.  During the General Election, I worked with the California Democratic Party in their Oakland Field Office, where I worked with many local organizations and campaigns.  Most recently, I interned with the Kamala Harris for Attorney General Campaign.

I am an openly gay young man and care deeply about the issues that affect the LGBT community.  While i currently don’t see myself getting married anytime soon, I beleive strongly in my right to marry and love whomever i wish and look forward to the day when Californian’s reject discrimination and repeal Prop 8.

My other interests are in economic and urban design and development and transportation planning.   Personally, the only sport I can play well is baseball.  I used to play and still love jazz.  I’m a decent bartender and an excellent cook.  I love to go out to dinner at the latest restaurants but nothing beats a great and greasy hamburger or street taco.
