Who’s Roobs?

Roobs!
My name is Reuben Duarte but most of my friends call me “Roobs”. I’m 27 years old and currently live in Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in the southern San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Visalia. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Legal Studies & Sociology and received my Masters in Urban & Regional Planning from UCLA.
My professional background is in law, politics, and urban planning. I worked as a paralegal at a law firm in the Bay Area that specializes in real estate development. At the time, I thought I wanted to attend law school. That later changed. While still in the Bay Area, I also served as a Commissioner on the Waterfront Commission for the City of Berkeley and as an Executive Board Member of East Bay Young Democrats in Oakland. After moving to Los Angeles for grad school, I served as Chair of the California Young Democrats LGBTQ Caucus and worked in the planning field for the City of West Hollywood, Los Angels Councilman, Bill Rosendahl, and for the firm, Community Arts Resources.
I began my work in politics with the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign in San Francisco and was selected as an At-Large Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 2008. During the General Election, I worked with the California Democratic Party in their Oakland Field Office, where I worked with many local organizations and campaigns. I’ve also worked with the Kamala Harris for Attorney General campaign and Wendy Greuel for Los Angeles Mayor campaign.
I am an openly gay young man and care deeply about the issues that affect the LGBT community. While I currently don’t see myself getting married anytime soon, I believe strongly in everyone’s right to marry and love whomever they wish. I look forward to the day when Californians reject discrimination and repeal Prop 8.
Personally, the only sport I can play well is baseball. I used to play and still love jazz. I’m a decent bartender and an excellent cook. I love to go out to dinner at the latest restaurants but nothing beats a great and greasy hamburger or street taco.
