My name is Reuben Duarte but most of my friends call me “Roobs”. I currently work in Los Angeles as a land use planner for Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden, where I work with our clients on land use, real estate and economic development matters. I consider myself a moderate Democrat and personally believe that real estate development and planning are integral parts of creating a strong economy that works for everyone, and that development is often misunderstood by those who often oppose projects and pro-development policies.
I received my Bachelors degree from UC Berkeley in Legal Studies and Sociology, and a Masters degree from UCLA in Urban & Regional Planning. I’ve previously worked at a SF Bay Area law firm and as a planner for the City of West Hollywood and a freelance planner for a few consulting firms. I’ve also served as a Commissioner on the Waterfront Commission for the City of Berkeley, as an Executive Board Member of East Bay Young Democrats in Oakland, and Chair of the California Young Democrats LGBTQ Caucus (a statewide organization).
Personally, the only sport I can play well is baseball. I used to play and still love jazz. I’m a decent bartender and an excellent cook. I love to go out to dinner at the latest restaurants but nothing beats a great and greasy hamburger or street taco.
